mom, snakes, and sci fi

This weekend was great, mostly because my mother came to visit, but also due to curling, a party Saturday night filled with green drinks, music, and snakes, and a bunch of awesome scifi tv.

Mom stuff:
Things accomplished with my mother:
-lots of talking with mom, woo!
-clothing for both her and me to wear to my sister's wedding
-lots of wedding-related discussion, including which engagement pictures we liked
-she got material from G street fabrics for a baby quilt for someone at work is adopting a little boy from Guatemala
-she got a car CD case from the Container Store
-we discovered where to buy Denis cheap gatorade
-I went inside Tyson's Galleria for the first time
-we got yummy food at Lebanese Taverna
-she discovered that Chico's is awesome and has all this stuff that looks like it was made for her
-I don't feel the need to go shopping again for a long time
-but she bought me shoes
-I showed her how to buy a better bra, although she was relatively unimpressed
-I won my first curling game as skip!!!! (she was much more impressed)
-she kitted a huge amount of prayer shawl during my two curling games of the weekend
-my kitchen is clean
-my fridge is totally cleaned out
-my closet is partially cleaned out
-she got a new black bag from my closet
-we made this spicy cashew chicken that was awesome
-she "accidently" left $20 in the center console of my car when I was dropping her off at the airport

Party:
We arrived late to J. and R.'s birthday party as we wanted to spend as muc time as possible with mom. By the time we got there lots of people were already drunk off the magical green stuff. We decided I would have the green stuff and D. would drive.

Had a nice time chatting with drunk friends, and a mix of drunk and sober new people. Then we went downstairs to play Rock Band. We discovered that I am a shitty singer, but okay on guitar. D., however, is an awesome singer, and only okay at guitar. Now we just need a drummer :)

boy: "Do you want to come in to my room and see my snake?"
voice in amelia's head: "you went to college, the answer to this question is no, thank you"
amelia: "ooh you have a snake"
boy: "yes it's really cool"
voice in amelia's head: "remember all the 'snake' experiences in Croatia this summer, just say no"
amelia: "I'd love to see your snake, how big is it?" (disappears into room)

10 minutes later

amelia: (bleeding, crying to Denis) "whaaa it bit me!"
denis: "I'm in the middle of a song here"
amelia: "but look, blood"
host: "come upstairs I'll help you"

5 minutes later, upstairs after song is finished

denis: "so what bit you?"
amelia: "a snake, it was all friendly so I let it touch my arm and then it got scared and bit me, poor snake"
denis: (rolls eyes a little) "so you let it touch you?"
