We're having such a nice weekend!

Friday the fantastic [livejournal.com profile] flt (and her van) and I went to the dump to get rid of the hot tub-related junk the bulk trash people didn't take on Thursday. It's the first time the yard's been totally clear in a couple weeks. Then we had yummy thai food :)

Friday night was dinner with [profile] durdge, Jem, and B. who is staying with them for a while. B. is a good cook and we are looking forward to spending more time with him.

Saturday was [personal profile] lightgetsin's party. Congratulations to her! It was great to see a whole bunch of people I don't see often enough!

We also finished the deck. D. put the spindles on and the railing is back up!

Today we had a BBQ. It started off a little damp (we really need a box to store the cushions in), but it cleared up enough to grill some meat (and some non-meat) and play some cards. It was great chatting with everyone.

I did some house and yard stuff this afternoon. Our next big project is finishing removing the big stumps. Our huge, ancient cherry tree has fruit. I guess it really is a cherry. There is was some talk of pie, but how to harvest fruit when it's so tall? (Maybe 40+ feet high? I'm bad with estimating).
I had the most awesome weekend ever! One highlight (of many) was during the limo party Sat. night. (This involved renting a limo, getting dressed up, then driving around DC drinking, listening to music, and stopping to take pictures at monuments, and also McDonalds). We pull up to the capital in our Hummer limo (we didn't want a Hummer, but there was a screw up so we just embraced the tacky). The tea party people had been protesting earlier, some of them were still around, and all their signs were in the trash can. So we took their signs, edited them (ripped the "no" off of "No Obamacare" for example), and posed for our picture. There were people speaking outside the Supreme Court (had to go for all the lawyers in our group), but we decided to keep our drunken obnoxiousness to ourselves. The secret service/park police/whichever authority figure was nice enough to let us take the picture.

I paid for my awesome weekend by having the most miserable night ever. Went to bed around 2am and could not sleep for the itching. The benadryl had no effect. Got up several times to try all my anti itch lotions, and even used an ice pack for a while (didn't help). Gave up at 5:30am, took an oatmeal bath (only helped a little), and watched tv until I could nap for a couple hours around noon. So now I'm itchy, exhausted, slightly nauseous (from being overtired), frustrated, and overall yucky feeling. The spots have spread to my forearms and calves. Some of the early ones on my chest are fading, but new ones are still appearing on my breasts. At least there isn't much more of my body it can spread to? (It shouldn't go to my face, and hands and feet would be unusual.) I just want it to stop itching (or respond to something other than drinking which isn't a viable daily option) so I can sleep. What a sad end to a tremendous three days.

This weekend was great!

We were home! Saturday was the Croatian party which was a really nice time. Low-key with yummy food and of course great people. Sunday I finally got my lazy day. We stayed in, ate leftover baklava and veggie curry I had made Friday, played some WoW (looks like I'm back into it after an absence), read some Watchmen (yeah I waited until the movie is about to come out, lame I know). Question: are there any happy comics? And wrote a couple of lectures. It was very relaxing.

Currently I'm proctoring my midterm. Probably not the best idea to be posting while proctoring, but there are only 9 of them, they're writing essays, and I can see all of them from my table. (Plus I brought in some leftover baklava so their brain would have plenty of glucose.) Grading fun tonight!

Some notes on media:

1. The 2nd season of Mad Men is shaping up to be just as awesome as the 1st. I still want all the clothes (but none of the angst). Highly recommended.

2. After Mad Men they are reshowing Breaking Bad which I caught a few episodes of this spring. It took me 2-3 episodes to get into it but it became quite compelling. One of the most original stories I've seen on television. Recommended.

3. <3 <3 <3 for The Middleman!!! Seriously, you should really check it out. It plays on ABC Family (just ignore the commercials) on Monday nights at 10pm here. If you don't want to do that you can get it from the ABC Family website (free) or from iTunes. Love love love!!! Very highly recommended.

4. I've been watching Due South for the first time during my lunch breaks. (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel for the tip on finding the entire series cheap.)
oh you guys! It's so sweet. I just LOVE them. Plot silliness aside, Benny and Ray and the dog! Awwww. It's just a whole cute love fest set in dirty Chicago streets. I want to have babies and name them Benny and Ray. <3
This weekend was great, mostly because my mother came to visit, but also due to curling, a party Saturday night filled with green drinks, music, and snakes, and a bunch of awesome scifi tv.
