Dollhouse s.2 ep.7-10

Caught up on Dollhouse.

Wow, just wow. Remember how lackluster the first half of season 1 was? This is show I want to be watching. There are a lot of themes and ideas to untangle is this and I'm not going to deal with them right now.

Love that we didn't kill two three main characters, it was foreshadowed and expected and nice that we didn't go down that road (yet). Killing-your-lover-out-of-necessity still packs some emotion. I like that it was between secondary characters not Echo/Ballard, thank you for avoiding that.

Nice to see whathisname mole from season 1. Did we buy Clyde (aka older Topher) as ninja assassin? I guess 25+ years give you a lot of time to play with different identities. Also liked the big attic reveal and the super secret reclaimed solders.

Also, go team! Everyone assembled in Adele's office at the end of ep. 10, made me go awwww Joss Whedon. It's like Buffy/Angel/Firefly, the team gearing up for the big fight. *hearts*

Shoveled today. Realized am out of shape. When I came in D. had made french toast and hot chocolate :) (Yesterday D. made a heroic trip to the post office mid-blizzard, *adores*). Rest of the day has been lazy. Oh, I just finished The Help. Enjoyed it, would recommend.

I also thought Dollhouse was really interesting -- more than sorry it's cancelled now. I like the team aspect, and the Matrix overtones were really interesting. I now see that Ep 1x13 was supposed to be only one of Clyde's alternate universes - and the question of how get to those 3% where civilization doesn't end is the puzzle.

I'm also vaguely disturbed by the notion that Adele was Clyde's "best mate". I think they are the only two Rossum folks with British accents, so they clearly want me to think that... which might mean it's not true. Or that it is true :) They are really good at making me love and then hate her on alternate commercial breaks! And the Adele/Echo dynamic is getting really interesting...

Oh, comparisons with the Matrix are really interesting. I never thought the "best mate" was Adele, because wouldn't she be higher up in the organization? I'm thinking he is Mr. Ambrose, who we met in s.1 ep. 13 in Victor's body eating seafood and introducing the idea of permanent body upgrades to Adele. I think they're doing brilliant things with Adele playing both sides, her drive to protect her dolls and her instinct to preserving her own position put her in some fascinating positions, and the actress is great.

Oh right - Ambrose! I think they've well established that when we encounter whoever it is, it will be in a body that we don't expect. Interesting strategy to keep the number of characters high and the number of actors low :)
