I just found out that the program I applied for to spend a couple of weeks in Romania this July has just been postponed until next year. I was getting the hint that it wasn't going to work out when the Foundation didn't return any of my emails or calls, but I had to find out from someone who works in the Williams career services office. I hope they made this decision after I sent in my application in April, since they had been talking to me about it since last fall. Still, they should have sent me a letter/email. Denis is happy that I won't be leaving.
In better news I got more work from my boss so I have some interesting things to do. She's working on a talk so I think she wanted to give me lots of stuff so I don't have to bother her every couple of hours. Sounds good to me.
Things are also developing in our car situation. In March our neighbor backed into our car and drove off. Two guys walking down the street told us about it. (I think I wrote about this before, but anyway). Denis said he'd take care of it and contacted the neighbor who said she'd pay us for the damage, but didn't want to go though insurance because it would raise our rates. Being nice (and stupid) we agreed. We haven't gotten around to having the car fixed, partly because it's hard enough getting both of us where we need to be with only one car, and partly because Denis hasn't gotten around to it and we had a fight about it which resolved itself by me waiting for him to take care of it. I plan to drive this car until it dies so I don't really care about the dent, although of course I'd like it fixed.
Denis saw the neighbor and she said she's moving, so what about the car. Denis found some time to have the damage appraised and fixing it will be expensive. He goes online to find her email address (because he doesn't have a phone at work) and finds out that she's a Williams College Professor!!! I was surprised, I thought it was a stupid college kid, not a prof. who'd do a hit and run. (I've never seen or met her). She's in the Theater Dept. Guess if she doesn't pay up we know how to find her. Hopefully we won't get screwed, but after our experience with Dowd's re: our wedding reception I'm not overly optimistic.
This is kind of a pessimistic post, although I didn't really mean it to be. I haven't been feeling great lately, yesterday I got really woozy and was pretty out of it for most of the evening. I also need to get back into a consistant exercise plan, I did nothing through finals and last week only a couple of sporadic workouts, hopefully I'll feel up to doing something tonight. What I have been doing a bit of for the past few days is studying Croatian. It's nice to do it in the coffee shop in the morning (I get dropped off at 8:30, but work doesn't start until 9, although sometimes my boss will say don't come in until 9:30 or 10, it's pretty flexible, I don't think she realizes that I need the money). So I hope to keep that up and actually make some major progress by the end of the summer.

In all seriousness, though, I hope that you're able to work something out. I agree with your assessment that since she's a prof. at least there will be ways to find her if she happens to flee.
