I'm just going to update this as I go along.
episode 10Aw, it's the coming out episode...or maybe not.
Yay, it's Chris from Skins!
Oh, the boys have pillowtalk, so cute. Also, Merlin's mom is beautiful.
Now, I'm all for the feminist "the women fight too to defend their homes," but can we discuss the starving children we're fighting to feed? I just want a note that the old? infirm? pacifists? crappy fighters? designated childcare providers? are taking the children to the woods so that someone's thought of them.
Hold up Merlin, you're running into a Dr. Who problem, you're so important people are sacrificing themselves for you, watch out.
episode 11
oooh, unicorns!
I guess this means that Merlin's a virgin.
I know we've also noticed Arthur's fantastically-boy-band hair, but I'd just like to note the amount of product he's using while hunting.
Shouldn't we shut the door when we're having discussions about Merlin's hidden magical powers? This seems a common oversight.
Awesome, love me some hero quests mixed in with my unicorn-icide repentance. Also, there's always 3 tests. 3 brothers (unless there's 7), 3 daughters, 3 tests. 3 is the magic, narrative-appropriate number. Stop panicking about #2.
Ew, I warned you about the bugs earlier.
OMG is the poison iocane powder? Writers, I love you!
episode 12
okay so other people die unjustly and we're a little angry, but our friends and friends' families are threatened, that's worth every sacrifice. That would be the show's morality. (See also ep. 10, it makes total sense why the king couldn't send his army into his ally's kingdom to stop the guy terrorizing the village. In fact everyone should have gone as individuals not as representatives of the court.)
I'm also kind of coveting Morgana's wardrobe. And this show is reviving some latent cloak obsession.
Seriously "meet in the wood" isn't the wood kind of big, like, woods? How about a landmark, like where the path enters the wood? How did people ever find each other before cell phones?
The dragon's advice might be a little biased in this situation.
Morgana, don't you think that Arthur your brother/love interest/close friend is going to be angry and hurt that you're planning on killing his dad? I know you need to become permanently estranged, but perhaps a little perspective?
Ooh I didn't see that coming, not Uther softening (I totally saw Morgana quickly changing her mind.) Still feel like Arthur was neglected a bit, but since it looks like he plays dead all through the next episode perhaps that's for the best.
Interesting to see "action through inaction" as a plot device.
