Thursday was a pretty busy day as we attempted to do a bunch of things we hadn't gotten to the rest of the week.
We started out at the art gallery at the Bellagio. They had a landscape show that was pretty interesting, there was some nice work by Hockney, Ana Mendieta, and some Impressionists, but I was expecting more. We both enjoyed a painting by Joel Janowitz, someone I hadn't been familiar with before.
Then we headed to the Pinball Hall of Fame. This was fun! It's free entry and is essentially a big room with pinball machines from all decades as well as some 80s video games. Most everything is working and you can just play. They give any profit to the Salvation Army. I was quite partial to the older machines from the 70s (5 balls for a quarter suits my skill level) and B. was pleased to find some games he used to play as a kid. We played tetris together. :) I would recommend if you're in Vegas.
We went to the MGM for lunch, stopping to look at the lions on our way to 'Wichcraft a sandwich shop owned by Tom Colicchio. I had a somewhat expensive, but very delicious turkey, bacon, avacado sandwich. The bacon was AMAZING. I also had some of B.'s mushroom soup that was good. He had some kind of steak and egg sandwich and he said the egg was cooked perfectly.
Next we stopped by the M&M shop (like Disney World with candy characters) and then to the Excaliber and Luxor--two casinos I hadn't been in yet. They were neat. We put a few dollars in a slot machine at the Luxor and I think B. won $15.
I was getting a little tired at this point. We decided to head off strip to do some gambling (we were going to get around to it eventually!). We drove out toward Red Rocks, which ended up taking a while because the GPS gave strange instructions. I napped in the car so this worked out well for me. We ended up at the Red Rocks Casino which was ritzier than we wanted, but finally found cheaper options at Suncoast. (This was actually something of a production, I'm writing down the names for future reference.) Anyways. B. played blackjack for a while and eventually I joined in. I was a little intimidated at first as I've never played a table game before. It was fine. Eh. Gambling is not really my thing. We were at a $5 table, I think I ended up $10 down, and B. was $35 up so that averaged out well.
We headed back to town for dinner at Hofbrauhaus--a German restaurant :) The food was pretty good, we split a massive salad, a schnitzel and sausage plate, and a beer. The decor was kitchy fun, waitresses in costume, the whole bit. The only negative was that it was LOUD. They had a band playing oompha music and it was hard to hear yourself think, especially with some of the yelling of the other guests.
Overall we had a really great trip!
Friday our flights were uneventful (no drunk chatty seatmates FTW!). I read The Girl Who Played With Fire ad cursed myself for not having bought the third book yet. Now I'm really happy to be home, but pretty exhausted. Not looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of work, but I'm sure it will be fine.
