I went and saw brokeback mountain with
bayleaf tonight. It was gorgeous. Just as beautiful as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with all of the restrained emotion that is powerful but never sentimental of The Ice Storm. It was a beautifully consistent film as well you got a powerful sense of the landscape and of the people who inhabited it, not only the men (Heath Ledger deserves every award they can give him, they should make up a few just for him), but also of their wives and families. In surprisingly few scenes you understood exactly what all these people were about and how the tragedy affected them as well. I haven't read the story yet, but I was surprisingly okay (ie not crying) through the movie until the very end. I highly recommend it.
