I went and saw brokeback mountain with [livejournal.com profile] bayleaf tonight. It was gorgeous. Just as beautiful as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with all of the restrained emotion that is powerful but never sentimental of The Ice Storm. It was a beautifully consistent film as well you got a powerful sense of the landscape and of the people who inhabited it, not only the men (Heath Ledger deserves every award they can give him, they should make up a few just for him), but also of their wives and families. In surprisingly few scenes you understood exactly what all these people were about and how the tragedy affected them as well. I haven't read the story yet, but I was surprisingly okay (ie not crying) through the movie until the very end. I highly recommend it.

I thought it was really good too (went to see it on my bday), and totally agree about Heath Ledger, and Michelle Williams (his wife), I thought they were both fantastic. God it was sad though! *sniff*

Yay! I've been hearing good things about this movie (it seems to have Oscar buzz) and I'm looking forward to it. Too bad it doesn't come out here until January.

Still, that's better than Rent, which doesn't come out here until the end of *February*. Sheesh. I might as well just order the DVD from the US, because it would probably get here before then.

being a fan of Heath Ledger, I'm going to have to see this movie soon! I love that kind of movie...although I hope the ending is a good kind of sad. Like the poignent kind? as opposed to just making you feel crappy afterwards. but it sounds like the first kind :-)
