The subject line refers to Jill not me btw. We headed up to Zagorije (mountainous part of Croatia north of Zagreb) last night. We had a really nice time visiting Zeljko (geeky one). We had dinner at a traditional Zagorijen (?) restaurant, then went to a cafe, then to his house and met his grandmother. We left Jill with him as Ivan was coming late after work to pick her up. (According to Ivan Zeljko is in love with Jill but now Jill and Ivan are sort of a couple. Zeljko has been pretty good, but Jill observed some passive aggressiveness and is not sure how their childhood friendship will fare.) Today we drove up again, even farther north this time, almost to the Hungarian border. We saw Ivan's vineyard (it's beautiful) and his house with his farm animals (chickens and pigs, the neighbors have rabbits too) and met his mother. I have pics of Jill on the farm which I will post later. Not sure how long she's going to stay, but I find the entire situation really really amusing. The whole area is very nice, the landscape reminds me a little of New Hampshire. It's pretty rural, but no worse than where I grew up.
Oh and my ring broke so we went to the jewelry store to get it fixed and Denis bought me a lovely necklace. It's an openwork flower in white gold, five petals for our five year anniversary.
I'm somewhat dreading the travel day tomorrow. Two connections in Munich and London. I'm worried my luggage won't make it, but we'll see. I'm sad to be separated from Denis for another 10 days bus psyched to see my apartment again (Denis says he cleaned it) and super excited for the treasure hunt!
