I just caught the 1997 Borrowers movie on tv. So cute. Did any one else love the books when they were young? There was also a cartoon I vaguely remember. Anyway the movie was very well done and has Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) as the little brother and a noticeably younger-looking Hugh Laurie and the friendly policeman who makes life difficult for the villain. According to imdb looks like Hugh Laurie did quite a few kids movies including Stewart Little, 101 Dalmatians, and...Spice World?!

The cartoon you're thinking of is probably The Littles, which was an unrepentant rip-off of The Borrowers. But possibly even more awesome because the Littles, as a species, are sort of people/mouse hybrids with buck teeth and cute tails.
