Family fall has begun. Last weekend my parents, sister, sister's boyfriend, and almost all my relatives from Ohio descended on Washington. It was great to see everyone (the last two big family gatherings we've had were my grandparents' funerals). We also did fun things like eat at Old Ebbitt's Grill and saw a great production of Twelve Angry Men at the Kennedy Center.

Then I had a few days of hiding and eating and not wanting to deal with work, people, etc. Until Saturday which I spent cleaning in anticipation of yesterday when my mother-in-law arrived from Croatia. Things were good yesterday. The week of eating has prompted me to get up at this ungodly hour for the gym. The microwave heating my oatmeal woke her up, but since she's still on Croatia-time I'm not worrying. She's sleeping on our pull-out couch in the livingroom so personal space is going to be in short supply for the next month, but she's very nice. Plus my Croatian will undoubtedly improve (and she brought me a beautiful silver necklace plus 5 pounds of chocolate, has anyone had Mozart kugel before? V. yummy.)

oh crap have to catch the bus

Mozart Kugel are great. Get your mother-in-law some ear plugs maybe. Is she handling the tight living space well?

Re: Tasty

The first two days have gone well. While we were at work today she made our bed, cleaned off Denis's messy dresser that I wouldn't touch because I'm *not* his mother :), picked up the livingroom, cooked dinner, and began to formulate plans for better places to put our plants and hang more pictures. It was great. Our apartment doesn't have enough cleaning and organizing to last a month though so we'll need to show her around. I'm not sure what she wants to do though. Just discovered tonight that she likes to watch CSI so now we're doing that.

Ask her if she plays backgammon, or any other cool games. I'll bet she knows some cool Croatian game.
It's awesome that she's helping out around the house.
I can't believe they get CSI in Croatia.

It's nice to hear from you. I can relate to needing days of avoidance and hiding sometimes, though I'm sorry you had to go through it recently. =(

I hope things are going well with your mother-in-law. Hopefully it isn't too stressful and will be a nice bonding experience for you. =) I know you don't get to see her often.
