([personal profile] abka Feb. 1st, 2003 12:48 pm)
Since I just spent 2 1/2 hours catching up on everyone's livejournals I thought I would get back into the swing of things by posting some random surveys stolen from Erin.

Wallet: Brown trifold from Italy
Hairbrush: Pink plastic, not too exciting.
Toothbrush: Electric one (although while traveling had to switch to manual)
Jewelry worn daily: wedding ring, engagement ring, sapphire ring (which is both one year-anniversary and original engagement ring), and watch (I have a casual Eeyore watch and a silver grown-up watch depending on the day)
Pillow cover: white that matches sheets
Blanket: quilt I made for Denis when he was in the army, and new comforter with quilt-pattern comforter cover made by my mom
Coffee cup: Coffee is evil, but I may be becoming a tea convert, still no cup
Sunglasses: Black ones Denis bought me from Eddie Bauer a couple summers ago in Burlington
Underwear: gray cotton ones with a little bow
Shoes: only fuzzy socks right now
Favourite trousers: maybe new black ones although I don't want to see any clothes I brought on the trip for a long time
Cologne/Perfume: None right now, have several that I wear occasionally, lavender is probably my favorite
CD in stereo right now: none now
Tattoos: None (although off-and-on still desire one)
Piercings: Just ears
What you are wearing now: Fuzzy star socks, Williams sweatpants, above-mentioned underwear, old green t-shirt of Denis's, and old blue zip-up sweatshirt of Melissa's, no bra.
Makeup: None
In my mouth: some Milka chocolate
In my head: thoughts of how to procrastinate from having to go through piles of unsorted papers
Wishing: see above/Denis coming home soon
After this: either sorting papers, exercise, or procrastinating
Talking to: Nobody but myself
Eating: some chocolate
If you could get away with it and murder anyone, who and for what reason?: I can't think of anyone at the moment.
Person you wish you could see right now: College friends.
Is next to you: empty chair
Something you're looking forward to in the upcoming months: Classes (not homework)
The last thing you ate?: chocolate for the third time
Thing that you are deathly afraid of?: rejection, lonliness, great physical pain, death of loved ones
Do you like candles: sometimes, especially in church on Christmas Eve
Do you like hot wax: no
Do you like incense: not really
Do you like the taste of blood: not really
Do you believe in love: Yes
Do you believe in soul mates: not really, everyone has the capacity to be in love with/in connection with/happy with more than one person
Do you believe in love at first sight: not real love, maybe lust. Somewhere recently I heard about the three stages of love: love without knowledge, knowledge without love, and love with knowledge. I think only the third is real love, the others are being in love with the idea of someone, not who they really are. Although maybe it would be love at first sight with your child, I don't know, haven't had one yet.
Do you believe in Heaven: yes, but not in a strictly literal sense
Do you believe in forgiveness: yes, in the sense that forgiving is not neccesarily saying that what the person did is ok, it's more release for the forgiver than then forgivee.
Do you believe in God: yes
What do you want done with your body when you die: buried/whatever my loved ones prefer to have done
Who is your worst enemy?: I don't know
If you could have any animal for a pet: skunk (de-scented)
What is the latest you've ever stayed up: all night
Ever been to Belgium?: yes (the waffles were good)
Can you eat with chopsticks: sort of
What's your favourite coin?: I don't know, kunas are kind of cool with the fuzzy little animal on them (not a fan of euros)
What are 5 cities you wouldn't mind relocating to?: Rome, somewhere in Tuscany that's not Florence, Boston, New York (maybe), not sure about the fifth.
Anyone you miss that you haven't seen in a long time?: All my college friends, Denis's family.
What's one thing you want to make happen for tomorrow?: I want to finish unpacking and start reading my new book The History of the Balkans from 1453 (Istanbul also has great bookstores).

1) Better pizza topping: Beef or Veggies?
Veggie

2) Better chocolate bar: Snickers or Baby Ruth?
Snickers

3) Better battery: Energizer or Duracell?
Don't care

4) Better vacation spot, gimme: Water or Snow?
Snow

5) Better sneakers: Reebok or Nike?
Don't care, I like New Balance though

6) Better way to travel: Land or Sky?
Depends on where you're going, sky is quicker, but car trips, and sometimes train rides can be great.

7) Better watch: Wind-up or Digital?
Wind-up, best are pocket watches (which I always wanted as a child, but my mother told me they were just for boys).

8) Better magazine: Spin or URB?
No idea.

9) Better wine: White or Red?
White, specifically dry Italian white

10) Better undies: Briefs/Boxers or Thong/French Cut?
For men my preference is boxer-briefs or boxers, for myself I prefer string bikinis (thongs are bad unless your outfit really demands it).

Friday Five for Jan 24, 2003

1. What is one thing you don't like about your body?
Too chubby, especially lately around my hips.

2. What are two things you love about your body?
There are a few things, I like my breasts, my eyes, and my general body shape (I have an hour-glass figure).

3. What are three things you want to change about your home?
I wish that it was more organized, had better wall color, and hardwood floors instead of the green shag carpet in the hallway.

4. What are four books you want to read this year?
HIstory of the Balkans from 1453 (that will probably take me 6 months)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Balkan Trilogy by Olivia Manning (half way through it)
The Life of Forms in Art by Henri Focillion (art history theory book/Christmas present)

5. What are five promises you have kept to yourself?
This is hard. I've promised myself to be mindful of what I'm doing and aware of my actions and always thoughtful in regards to the decisions that I'm making. I'm doing pretty well on that. I've also tried to be kinder and more patient, particularly in regards to my marriage. You'll have to ask Denis how that's going.

Friday Group Therapy 2.04

1. How do you feel about your weight?
I wish I weighed about 20 pounds less, but I'm generally happy with my body. Sometimes I do get bummed about about it though and defensive (example: "why should I try to loose weight? so that when I'm walking down the street men I don't know will want to fuck me and women I don't know will be jealous" not exactly healthy thoughts.

2. Have you ever been on a diet?
Briefly but not very often, I do make efforts to try to eat more healthily, but not in a deprivation type of way, more moderation.

3. What are your typical eating habits?
I try to eat a lot of vegetables and drink a lot of water. I mostly eat a lot of pasta/rice dishes sometimes with chicken. My diet could use more protein, especially fish and less sweets. If it's in my house I'll eat it, so I don't buy junk food, but sometimes it appears anyway.

4. What is your favorite food?
It varies, chocolate is always a winner. If I could live on only one type of food it would be soup. I love soup.

5. What is your least favorite food?
I don't like seafood, despite repeated attempts at trying it over the last month. Fish is growing on me, but it depends what kind. I will never like shrimp. I'm also not a fan of "wierd animal parts" including eyes, testicles, livers, brains, etc.

6. What is your favorite dessert?
Hard to know, chocolate is good, I'm also a big fan of Minka's bakleva.

7. What is your favorite restaurant & your favorite fast food place? Why?
I don't know about restaurant. I love Italian food, so somewhere in Italy probably. Fast food place? I don't know, maybe the chili at Wendy's? I was immune to the McDonald's fries and coke cravings that hit some members of my travel group while we were in Europe.

The kuna is Croatia's currency, I believe the kuna is also their national animal. I can't remember right now when it changed to Istanbul, but it was quite late. Fun fact of the day: Turks didn't start using last names until 1930 (and then they just made up their own).
