I know you don't really need another reason to love Joss Whedon, but check out this speech he gave at Equality Now. By the end I was all goose-pimply. Thanks to coffman for the link. (There's also this. I'm not sure if the interviewer actually knows it's Joss Whedon and is in on the joke, but I prefer to think he doesn't get it at all--it's funnier that way.)

I read through all the YouTube comments in response to that second link (ugh, random internet people are so puerile) and saw that someone posted a link to the story behind that interview, as told by the interviewer:

The condensed version: Joss wasn't scheduled to appear at the con, so these guys had planned to do a gag segment for their podcast where they were going to ask random con people incredibly nerdy Joss-specific questions (like the Etruscan one), as if they were Joss. They'd talked to a fair few people when they suddenly spotted him and were like "OMG JOSS WHEDON!!!!" So they ran over and the interviewer was freaking out but had to think of a new joke, quickly. So I guess the video's a little less funny because the interviewer knew, but the story behind it is kind of cute. I think this quote sums it up:

He was hilarious and brilliant and the whole time I'm playing the sarcastic jerk guy and inside my head is screaming "THAT IS JOSS FREAKING WHEDON! KISS HIS SHOES, WORM!! KISS THEM!!!"
