Anyone interested in joining me for dance classes this spring/summer? I've heard good things about Joy of Motion. I'm thinking about trying one of their drop-in ballet classes. Anyone interested in joining me on either a regularly scheduled or occasional basis? Most of their classes are drop-in, you just pay for that day's class, but some are sign up in advance. They've just relased their summer schedule. Ballet's probably my first choice, but I could easily be talked into jazz. [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon, interested in working on body position stuff to prep for curling? Anyone want to perhaps take a summer enrollment middle-eastern/belly-dancing class (I think this would be most fun if there were several of us), [livejournal.com profile] sanj? Dancing in front of sober people is something I would pay $15/hour to avoid, frankly.

It's a class so you are all doing the same things even if they look silly. I understand being self-conscious. For me it's something that goes away after a class or two. :)

No-- it's a class, so we're all supposed to be doing the same things, so I look extra-stupid when I can't master it on the 43rd try.

Hehe, belly-dancing. I can't help but think of those heavy metal belly dancers.

You read my mind! I've been eying their site, waiting for them to put up their summer schedule. I was looking at taking a modern class there, but wouldn't be adverse to doing ballet or middle eastern dance there in addition/instead.
Especially if I'd be dancing with people I knew. ;)

oh, I might be interested in modern. I'd take you up on ballet, but I'm pretty sure we're at completely different levels :) I'll keep you posted if there's enough interest to get a group together for middle eastern.

Keep modern in mind-- I'll let you know what class I'm thinking of. And as for ballet, I have no problem in taking beginning classes, as there's always the need to work on the basics and in some ways the beginning classes are harder, because you can't skimp on technique by doing something fancier. Either way. :)
And yes, keep me updated on the middle eastern thing!

I don't think they start until mid-June, but I'm not sure how fast they fill up and when you have to pay.

I haven't looked at the prices yet but I am so there for the belly-dancing/middle-eastern class. I've been meaning to take a class of that for a while and it wouldn't screw with my injuries, either. Which location were you thinking about?

Yay! I'm pretty flexible, but Dupont and Friendship Heights are the easiest for me (I either go south or north.) Bethesda wouldn't be bad if there's parking, downtown is easiest for me during the week.

Belly Dancing sounds fun.. I've been working on hubby to do Ballroom type dancing (and in fact checked it out myself just before he got back from his deployment - learned the basics of the Rumba). I'm not a fan of DC though, so if the Belly Dance thing is there, I'll probably just live vicariously through you guys.
