We went to see Goblet of Fire last night. We were aiming for the 8:45 show, but they were sold out so we got tickets for the 10:35 and killed time at the bookstore and coffeeshop. It actually worked out better, we had a nice evening together. Overally I really liked the movie. I hadn't read the book in a couple years and there were some things I missed, but others (house elves) I really didn't.

Things I loved:
-yay the movie in general! I am not particularly picky and movie made me very happy overall. Things were paired down, but of course they needed to be in the transition from book to screen.
-plant boy! Neville, sooo cute.
-props! pretty holy-grail-esque goblet inside amped-up reliquary (also liked the Moody trunk)
-Ginny, also cute, why isn't her hair redder though?
-teenage boy stupidity and general confusion/angst (dance scene rang particularly true for me, also liked Hermione's dress)
-scary Voldemort with no "hey that's Ralph Finnes" moment
-Alan Rickman, so great even with almost no lines, I particularly loved the shot of him adjusting his cuffs before he hit the boys. (All the adult actors were good actually)
-Hermione's loyalty
-I bought Harry crying over Cedric's body, but Denis thought the acting in that scene was horrible
-Finch and cat dancing
-inappropriate Myrtle

Things I missed while watching the movie and/or was confused by:
-veela, really wanted to see them!
-why Crouch Jr. appeared in initial Voldemort scene, threw me
-why Moody had to change the Hogwart's ceilling when he first entered
-why they didn't sit up in the box to watch the game, and instead had the "you're poor" meeting with the Malfoys on the stairs, couldn't they have made that point with the dress robes?
-perhaps you should explain priori incantatem?
-Beaubaton boys, Drumstrang girls
-prejudice about giants, they had Hagrid/Maxime scenes, it really would have taken only an extra line and would have made a good point
-rock band at dance, good, but threw me, felt a little too contemporary (also, why so little discussion of wizarding music in the books--or is there and I've just missed it?)
-snogging, I don't remember if it was in the books, but didn't the boys at least become aware of snogging during the dance? Someone somewhere should have been snogging on screen
-other contestants' dragon-fighting (glad they covered their underwater strategies)

There's probably more, but I'm not remembering it right now, we'll have to see it again some time. I'm also re-reading book 4 now to see what they left out that I didn't remember.
