Does anyone know if there is a way to create groups in gmail? I want to put all my 275 kids on one mailing list, but can't figure out how. I would also like it if any mail from them went immediately into a 275 folder rather than my inbox, but maybe that's too optimistic?

While Gmail is pretty smooth for a webmail program, it unfortunately is not nearly as full-featured as a traditional email client. :-(

Yeah, these are things that Gmail is really sadly unslick about.
Instead of filtering by sender, another way to go about it would be to filter by subject line or some special word that's always in the email, but I don't know whether that's feasible. If you can make it so that the 275 kids always send you emails with something like "Art class" in the subject line or if know they're always going to mention "African sculpture" somewhere in the message, then it would work fine.
As for groups, the only way not to have to type them all out everytime is to copy all the email addresses and paste them in a draft or message that you keep stored in the account. That way you can just copy and paste the list whenever you need it.

That's a very clever and resourceful idea!
Also, I think maybe there are not 275 kids in the class, but that 275 is the numbering of the class within the Art History department's course offerings.

yes, the course number is 275, there are about 200 students in the course and I have 62 between my two sections.
