Quote of my day:
"soldiers are trained to fight until death, but stock brokers are not."
From a 101 student who got a C-/D+ on that question. Perhaps more amusing in context, for the essay question they had to compare the Parthenon (not the Pantheon) and the Vietname Veterans Memorial with the proprosed monuments for the World Trade Center site. There was a lot of patriotism and schmaltzy language for an essay on an exam.
Also during the last two weeks I saw "Angels in America" on HBO. It was fabulous, I love HBO. Then I read an article on how the angel is Walter Benjamin's angel of history. No matter what I do I cannot escape Benjamin, I promise the art history gods that someday I really will read him.
oh, and internet access at my carrel in only intermitant. I emailed the williams tech people and someone called my house and left a message on my answering machine. Of course he left it in Croatian so I could only understand a quarter of it, guess he heard Denis's half of our message and decided that all of us can speak Croatian. Maybe I should be flattered that someone left a Croatian message for me, assumption of a fluency I have not yet attained. Hopefully this post will work.

The Pantheon is the round (well the interior is round, the exterior is rectangular), concrete building that has a porch with marble columns in the middle of Rome. The interior has a coffered, domed ceilling with a central oculus.
