The Fulbright interview was fine, I worry that I talked too much, but then it was an interview. They also asked really broad questions so I had a lot to say. They couldn't find a Croatia person so I just interviewed with two deans. They had practically no feedback on my essay, blech.

Grading the 101 exam will be interesting. The exam itself was hard, but from the few tests I've read already I think most of them did okay. We have a big meeting today to talk about the exam and set some grading standards (sorry Dan, no stairs involved.) Unfortuately the student I met with yesterday pretty much bombed. The first two questions were okay, but on the 25 min. essay (which involved two knowns, from their list, that they had to memorize, the other questions were unknown) he got both the monuments wrong, one he just picked the wrong cathedral, that's not too bad, same time period and the analysis is similar, but for the other he got the title right, but the artist and time period wrong so he wrote about it as if it was 16th c. Baroque instead of 19th c. Neoclassical. That's like confusing the Las Vegas strip with the Mall in Washington D.C.

This my favorite art-school related post ever because you mentioned the Las Vegas strip and related it to 16th century Baroque painting.
