Oh mighty flist, I need some advice.

Music:
I'm driving north for a bonspiel this week and due to scheduling I'm driving by myself. So that's 6-7 hours each way. Definitely doable. I generally like driving by myself given that I have good music. Now, I'm pretty lazy about music, once something's in the car it lives there *forever* (or on the ipod, but I don't want to fuss with the ipod thingy in the car if it's just me) and I prefer CDs to mixes.

Here's what's currently in the car:
1. Joss Stone "Introducing Joss Stone" I love the first half of this (esp. 2, 4, 6), but I usually get bored before I get to the end. (Denis loves track 8. huh).

2. Lady Gaga :hearts: upbeat dancing stuff is good. Currently I'm starting in the middle of this (track 5 or 6) then cycling back to the beginning. IDK.

3. Fallout Boy eh. sometimes I'm in the mood. Lately notsomuch, but I usually cycle back to it.

4. Movits! !!! My infatuation is undiminished. I still listen to this all the time and I love it to the point of having a silly crush on the lead guy. Oh and sometimes I try to sing along. In Swedish. It does not go well. I heart them. If you ever hear of anyone who has any connection to them at all ever and can hook me up. Please do. Just thought I would put that out in the universe.
eta: ARGH! They had a US tour in January and I missed it :( I hadn't checked the website since before the holidays. sadness! :kicking myself:

5. Cage the Elephant. I really like the beginning tracks, there's one in the middle I always skip, then I like the rest of it. I keep forgetting it's in there and then remembering that I like it.

6. Ani DiFranco "Red Letter Year" I expect I'll grow out of/in a different direction than her, but each new album I still love. Present/Infant can make me cry if I'm in the right mood. Also love Atom, and the one that starts with "I could sing you up a tree." Track 12 is my absolute favorite song right now. I want my life to feel like track 12.

Other things that have made the car rotation in recent months include Joe Firstman and Dar Williams.

So what would you suggest? I'm thinking maybe the new Pink album? I'll take pop, folk, rock, even some dance/techno stuff is okay for car. Points for anything I can loudly and overdramatically sing along to or car dance to. Or anything that will make me cry (but not sob, I'll be driving). If I get my act together [personal profile] ellen_fremedon will lend me some Dr. Who audiobooks (woot!), but if I get sleepy or cranky or happy I'll want music. Thoughts?

Plants:

Not only did we buy a house we also bought a yard. I had ideas for the house, not really so many for the yard. This year might be all about maintenance and neutrality (eg buy lawnmower, use lawnmower, deal with dead tree branch, fix door of shed that's falling off, find something to do with pile of sand?, also unused concrete pad?, trim bushes around hottub).

I want to put something out in front at least. Maybe bushes? And then I would perhaps like flowers and maybe vegetables in the back? But I have *no idea* what I'm doing.

Does anyone have any book, website, or blog suggestions? Anything along the lines of "How to think about designing your backyard" to "How to put plants in dirt and make sure they don't die". 101 is great. Is there a gardening equivalent to apartment therapy? Help me procrastinate plan, please :)
