apples and whine

Sunday we went apple picking with durdge, Jem, and A.. It was a lovely time, great weather, idyllic setting (complete with small children and goats), and fantastic company. It was fun comparing all the different varieties of apples (including caramel). I've been feeling homesick for New England and nostalgic for old friends (from MA and college and even from highschool(!)) and this helped.

Today could be going better. I was up late-ish as planned finishing my powerpoint for lecture today. But I forgot about some reading summaries I needed to grade this morning (now finished). And I really forgot about a dissertation abstract that needs to be written *today*. That would be fine if I didn't have class from 11:30-1 and from 2:30-5. It shouldn't take me long once I get into it but my brain does not want to wake up and play.

Also I have two students in charge of leading discussion today. Usually I have 3-5 but one of them is in charge of a monster article. And she just emailed me this morning and is very sick. Usually I would have time to do some additional class prep but not with the stupid abstract. I want to go back to bed.

Ug, I think this is what it feels like to need coffee except I don't drink coffee.

It went okay. Class was good. I didn't get my abstract done until dinnertime so I hope it was still accepted (and didn't suck) but at least I finished it.
