abka: painting of daffodils and pear (Default)

I'm finally working on (actually writing) my Paul Klee paper. My topic is Klee and the mechanical and I'm focusing a lot on his Twittering Machine and I just found an image of the 19th c. literal Twittering Machine that inspired it. (The second image on the page, Spielwerk mit Vogelstimmen, um 1860.) I'm not the first person to make the connection, but I haven't been able to find an image of the machine. Okay, so I didn't actually find it, my prof. recommended an obscure German description of it from 1931 that referenced it, then I emailed the music curator at the Deutsches Museum (in English, I said she could respond in German, but she wrote back in English, yay her) and she told me that it was on the website. She also recommended an exhibition catalogue I should look at which I actually already have an ILL request in for. I'm hugely appreciative that she responded so quickly since I emailed her on Tuesday and my presentation is next week. So I probably should have "found" it myself, but whatever, I have the image in time for my presentation. It's not a huge part of my paper, but it's lots of fun when you "find" source material and it makes your presentation look more put together. I've been in the library all day, I think I'm getting a little punchy.
