I had a great trip to Syracuse earlier this week. Going through the archives was interesting, if a little tedious, and there were great Mestrovic books (in English!) in the library, spent $30 on photocopies. I realized I like his early work and public scuplture much better than his later religious work.
Also had a good time with Melissa. She showed me around and we both really enjoyed the Ani concert. It had such a good vibe and was very soul-recharging. I felt so much better after the concert then before (the second-hand smoke from the row behind us probably didn't hurt either). We really enjoyed the opening guy Hammel on Trial and as a bonus the concert was in the beautifully restored Landmark theater. I think Ani''s touring around the NE again this summer, so maybe I'll get to see her again (maybe even with Denis). Denis is currently sick with a flu/sore throat thing, but still insists on working. He's a bit jealous of my sleep-until-noon spring break schedule. (Maybe that's why he made the car appointment for 9am tomorrow).

I just found out yesterday that I have a summer job! I have been hoping to work at the Williams College Museum of Art, with the curator I worked for in the fall (this term I'm in the print room, which I love), and hadn't applied for anything else. Yay, putting all my eggs in one basket paid off. There's still that thing in Romania to apply for, I just need to get off my butt and to the library.

Hey, congrats on the summer job, Amelia! Williams isn't too far from NYC, right?! Romania is, though. :-(

Sounds like an awesome time in Syracuse! And hooray for the summer job!

Glad that the Ani concert was a good one - what a beautiful venue! It seems that Ani has reached a level where she's get to play all the really pretty venues around the country. When you're too small, you have to play nasty dirty holes-in-the-wall. And when you're too big, you get to play soulless stadiums or beer-soaked ampitheatres. But when you're playing to an audience in the high hundreds or very low thousands, you get to play some pretty cool places. And it seems especially that there are these historic old Art Deco movie houses which are large enough that showing just movies there wouldn't pay the bills, so they become concert venues - that seems to be the type of place the Landmark theatre you saw her at is, and it's the kind of place that the Paramount Theatre (http://www.paramounttheatre.com/) in Oakland is, where we saw her last. It's so cool that these places are still around and restored to their fully glory. They're just super-cool places to see a concert at. :-)
