Last night while niggling with the top of the new bellydance costume it was brought to my attention that I was wearing the wrong size bra. Today the patient, brilliant, and all around wonderful [livejournal.com profile] darthfox and I went shopping at the mall.

[livejournal.com profile] darthfox has been fitted by the wonderful people at Bravissimo (not yet stateside, if you are in England you must go there) and is something of a bra-fitting expert genius. After trying on about a million twenty? bras we determined that I am not a 38D or 38DD, but rather a 34FF or 34G. When I started wearing a bra I think it was a 34C? Then that became 36C, then 36D, then 38D.

34G?!?!? WTF! I know, WTF?

This is messing with my brain a little. My bra size has been ingrained in my head so long that I actually had to write the new size down in my day planner so that literally 2 minutes after we tried on the bras that fit I would remember it.

Bras that fit are magical. Did you know that the middle thingy (gore) is supposed to lay flat against your chest? I know, neither did I! And the back is supposed to be quite snug so that the bra can lift and this means that the back won't ride up? I know!

Also wearing the proper bra under clothes I look 10 pounds lighter.

Revolutionary! (I must call my mother, I bet she is wearing the wrong size too.)]

ETA: Here is [livejournal.com profile] darthfox's advice on bra fit. If you wear a bra you must read it!

If you have a Nordstrom locally, they're pretty good. [livejournal.com profile] gblvr got fitted today, and the saleswoman really did a good job.

*I* wear a 36 band, so there is no way in heck that tiny little you could be wearing above me. If I had know you were, I'd have pushed you to get professionally fitted.

Fortunately, at the size you are, there are a lot of options that don't require shipping from overseas.

A couple of years ago I got fitted at Dor-net, but instead of giving me a larger cup size they moved me from a 36D to a 38D. I know you've been talking about Bravissimo for ages, I'm just now exploring their website :)

I went to Victoria's secret a few week ago with a GF...and they were magic! I look a full size bigger when properly supported and I'm waaay more comfortable...they are massive!
