I had a great time on my trip to New York on Tuesday for Museum's class. The only downer was that it was a long, exhausting day. We got up at 5:30am, arrived in NY around 10:30, and took the 7pm train, arriving home a little before 11pm. I rode with David who was great company, although really really sick, we did sleep some on the train in.
I did the Asia Society for my report. It was wonderful, and I recommend it. The only disappointment was that the floor with the Rockefeller collection was closed, but I got to see some great work by this comtemporary Thai artist, he was dealing a lot with his use of Buddhism during his wife's illness and eventual death from breast cancer. I also had a super-yummy (but expensive) lunch in the museum's cafe. After that we caught the tail end of the Clark's unveiling of the new plan for the Tadeo Ando building to the "New York people" (donors and press) and then went Rockefeller center for class in one of the architect's conference room (Conforti, the director of the Clark and my prof. obviously had some connections). Class was really great (as were the offices; very self-aware about being a contemporary design firm in NYC), but a bit long.

I'm excited about going to New York on the 14th for my monuments class (and to visit the guys!!!) one little snag is that Denis didn't get Friday evening off from Best Buy, he's going to talk to them again. A larger problem is that my mother has annouced that she and my sister were supposed to visit Thurs. through Sat.? Too bad they never told me about their plan. I have to call her.
Maybe when I'm in New York I'll have a chance to go to the Matthew Barney show, a couple people saw it last weekend and said it was great, one of the best uses of the Guggenheim ever. Matthew Barney's kind of out there (I heard about a lot of video projection and Vaseline and I know one of this things involves a satyr character) so maybe that won't be such a hard sell for Denis.

Denis's girl scout cookie order came in. I remember him asking me about it when I was in Europe and me saying "a few boxes of samoas and thin mints would be good, and one of trefoils"; I ment 3-4, we just got 12. I have no self control in the face of girl scout cookies.

Yeah, the Cremaster Cycle looks, err, interesting. I haven't been to the Guggenheim in a while, actually, wouldn't mind getting an expert to show me around when one's in town...
