Today's been a hide-under-the-covers sort of day. Unfortunately I have the freedom to do that, I think it would have been better if I had some external committment that would have forced me to do something, but that has not been the case. At least I've caught up on rest.

I was watching tv and James Blunt was singing. I have a bit of a squick about people singing in public. (Not in a concert setting, except for that one Richard Shindell concert during which Denis kept asking me if I felt okay, but really I was just trying not to sob in public.) Anyway the people singing in public thing is really inconsistent, but it makes me really uncomfortable when people do and this extends to television too. I can watch a concert on tv, but cannot bear it when people sing on daytime television. It's something about boundaries and appropriate roles maybe? There are a few exceptions (like I love listening to [livejournal.com profile] nonemorecomic sing/play), but usually nothing worse than random singing. Oh except for poetry, I can't even watch people on television reading poetry (their's or someone else's) and in real life just forget it. There's something with my ability to process emotional information auditorily, I'd much rather read it (alone preferably). I'm from New England, I don't know you, it's too intimate, please just take your clothes off or something and I'll be a lot more comfortable.

Anyway, this James Blunt performance was not too bad. I did not change the chanel or even mute (although I was on the computer so I wasn't giving it my full attention). He sings that "You're Beautiful" song that is getting pretty heavy rotation. I like it well enough but not enough to have remembered his name. Anyway then he sung "Goodbye My Lover" which I like a lot. I just went and bought it which is something I rarely do.

So the point of this post is: do you need to a good cry? like emotional music? Listen to James Blunt's "Goodbye My Lover" (but don't sing it in front of me).

Maybe it is a New England thing, because I have similar hang-ups about singing and such outside of proper venues (like a concert or whatever).

I really like that phatty Blunt. Great expressive voice. His song was playing at CBGB's last night and I enjoyed him more than the act I was actually there to see.
