Finally arrived home last night. We've only been out of the country a couple weeks but that combined with Pittsburgh means I haven't really been home for a couple months and am greatly enjoying the small luxuries of my own bed, bathroom, computer, stuff, and a little alone time.
We had a great vacation! It was lovely to see
coffman and
jade_phoenix, their spiffy apartment and a little bit of Cambridge. We had scones with clotted cream and jam at the Orchard and went punting (Chris did a great job getting us up and down the river.) It rained a bit so we got to see a rainbow over the college.
It was also good to see Denis's mother, brother, and sister-in-law in Zagreb. Darijo now has a car so we were able to take a couple of food-oriented day trips to try Kremsnite in Samobor and Strukle in Stubicke Toplice. It was nice to hang out with just Darijo and Jasna. Instead of going to Bosnia for the wedding : ( (plans fell through), we went to the coast to Jasna's parents' house in Seline to see the kids. We were only there for a couple of days, but had time to go hiking in Mala Paklenica, go swimming a couple times with the kids and take them out for icecream. We also took a day trip to Graz, Austria to visit Denis's aunt (his uncle was a work), and one of his cousins (she's really cool, unfortuantely her sister couldn't make it because her kid has some sort of allergic reaction.)
Then we had a few gorgeous days with
coffman and
jade_phoenix in Dubrovnik. Hot sun, salty water, sweet icecream, German MTV, we had all the ingredients for a lovely beach vacation. (I'm not kidding about the MTV, we saw "Pimp my Fahrad" auf deutsch (fahrad=bike if you don't speak German). On the flight back to the states we even got upgraded to business class.
Now we're home a little fatter, quite a bit poorer, and slightly disorganzed. Denis had to work this morning, but after a run (to combat the little fatter) I have been playing Haus Frau. I've unpacked the suitcases, repacked them with stuff we keep stored and put them away, have also done lots of laundry (they replaced the coin-operated washers in our building with card-operated ones, much superior), and am seriously contemplating a trip to the grocery store after I finish getting our finances sorted.
After such a nice vacation I'm feeling pretty restored and ready to start working on stuff for school again (studying for comps, preparing to TA African art). And of course there's always more Croatian to learn.
