YOUR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL
What year was it?
1996-1997
What were your three favorite bands?
I'm not sure, Sarah McLachlin, and I remember listening to a lot of Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin while at Tim's house, I remember the Page and Plant No Quarter CD in particular.
What was your favorite outfit?
Light blue jeans with a button-fly, and a white peasant blouse with these huge sleeves that my mom hated to iron. Either felt clogs or boots, huge ugly white bra my mom bought me at JCPenny's. Contacts, no makeup. (Frankly I don't dress all that differently now, jeans and a solid colored shirt and sweater, only the cuts and colors have shifted, no more four-hook grandma bras, and my clothes fit as opposed to being huge on me.)
What was up with your hair?
Long (just past my shoulders), brown, and straight with a part.
Who were your best friends?
Tim (when we were dating), Allison, Liz, Erin. Brea was also part of the group, but she stopped liking me some time during junior high. I still keep in touch with everyone (but Tim who is getting married in March). Was friendly with other people (like Jackson especially when we were dating) and Zack. Also some guys from band JJ, Eric, and Jon.
If you want to see my senior picture and those of some other people from my highschool here's the link. Only about half of my class has posted. Check out Randall Sappington's entry (not a friend). Eric Languet (a friend I haven't kept in touch with) is a good example of a "typical" Mainer from my school.
What did you do after school?
A variety of extra-cirricular activities: drama club, student newspaper (I was the editor), Scott Hi-Q (quiz bowl), I wasn't dancing or in marching band any longer, but sometimes helped out with band stuff. Often went over to Tim's house and studied for AP art history or fooled around.
Where did you work?
Babysat for two little boys Siddique(sp?) and Tariq over the summers. Summer after my senior year I think they were 11 and 9.
Did you take the bus?
No, I was only a couple blocks from school so I could walk, or Tim would pick me up (to my parents' disgust--it was only down the street.)
Who did you have a crush on?
Um, Jackson when I was dating Tim. Then I left Tim for Jackson during the band trip to NYC to see Les Miserable. Jackson was my senior prom date. Then Jackson decided not to sleep with me so summer after senior year I went back to Tim.
Did you fight with your parents?
Sometimes. I would cry a lot for no reason and they would ignore me. They fought some and often my dad and sister would fight so I would hide out at Tim's a lot of the time.
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
No idea, probably nobody.
Did you smoke cigarettes?
No, didn't drink either.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
No, books were way too heavy (AP art history alone was 6 pounds I think.) I had no problems with my locker, it was right across from calculus.
Did you have a 'clique'?
I had my group of friends and a boyfriend. Maybe band counted, I spent a lot of free time hanging out in the band room.
Did you have "The Max" like Zach Kelly and Slater?
No, although if we were out at night (past 8) we would hang out at Dunkin Donuts because it was the only thing open, but mostly we were at each other's houses.
Admit it, were you popular?
No, not really. I was not invited to parties, but I had my friends and boyfriend(s) so it didn't really bother me. I was a "smart girl" (at least in history and english, there were other women who routinely kicked my butt in math), but no one really gave me a hard time about it.
Who did you want to be just like?
I have no idea. I wanted to be around people who discussed topics more interesting and more academic then the usual highschool gossip. I really wanted to go to college, I felt pretty sick of highschool after sophomore year.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A doctor, I switched from psychiatrist, to general practioner, to pathologist (so if I had a bad day someone didn't die), then briefly to psychologist. All dashed freshman year of college when I took calc and chemistry.
