I haven't updated in a while. As has been mentioned by others two weekends ago was fabulous (if exhausing).

New York
We drove down to NYC with my friend Betsy. Stayed with [livejournal.com profile] sunkistar who has a lovely apartment, and with whom it was even more lovely to visit. Saturday we got up early and had breakfast with my new Maryland advisor. I thought we would be talking about my academic career and Denis would be bored, but instead he filled me in on some major departmental changes (lots of recent retirements) and Denis was bored, but the food was good. Then we just walked around Soho, and up to Noho and NYU and Union Square. There were lots of street fairs around so that was fun to see. We spent some time in Barnes and Nobles looking at DC books and then met [livejournal.com profile] sunkistar for lunch at a yummy restaurant near Veselka's.

After a bit of a rest we went out to dinner with everyone at Swish. I was initially concerned, since I'm not very good at cooking my own food, but I had box with a variety of sushi and stuff which was excellent (along with ginger icecream for dessert.) Then we went to the party and thanks to Bay's band much rocking ensued. I even got a doorprize! It was nice to finally meet [livejournal.com profile] metallion who apparantly had seen our wedding album since he used the same wedding photographer that we did and Justin's blond ex-girl friend and their other not-blond friend whose names are escaping me now.

Sunday we headed home after a great brunch (I had my first Bellini, soooo good) which allowed Betsy to do some shoe shopping.

DC and Denis
Wednesday [livejournal.com profile] denis77 left for DC : (
He spent several days apartment hunting and we finally have it down to two places: one on CT Ave. near the Woodley Park zoo and sort of near Denis's work (my preference) and another in Takoma Park (bigger, cheaper, closer to U of MD). Denis submitted applications and now I am waiting nervously.

*fun Amelia and Denis fact* the morning after Denis proposed to me in DC back in October of 1999 we got up early and went to the zoo. We had gone before, but the baby tigers hadn't been out. We went and saw the baby tigers, then got in a taxi and drove Denis to the airport to begin his miliary leave. oh, shouldn't cry at work.

Today is Denis's first day of work and I wish I could be down there with him. Although I appreciate all the effort he's put in to apartment hunting and I have complete faith in his judgment, it would be nice to see places together as a team. He said on the phone last night that's he keeps seeing fun stuff to do (like the spy museum), but he's waiting until I'm in town. I wish I could be down there doing fun stuff with him too.

Next Weekend and This Weekend
This weekend we will be seeing almost everyone in Maine. Denis is flying to Manchester Friday night. Oddly we will probably see my cousins at the airport. Saturday is the memorial service for my cousins' grandfather (uncle-by-marriage's father), not a blood relative of mine, but part of the extended family. My parents are going to the memorial service and I really should, but would much rather go to the wedding and my parents said that will probably be fine and not a problem for my aunt and uncle.

I didn't little to nothing this weekend. To my credit I did exercise, but I'm behind on packing. I hate packing. Saturday night I attended [livejournal.com profile] osirusbrisbane's burrito-fest, which was by far the highlight.

I spoke to my sister on the phone about her wedding plans. She asked if light pink would be an okay color for late August early September. I said if she liked it it would be fine. They want to do pale pink and silver which sounds lovely. My mother wants them to have pink and green, but how dumb to have one daughter get married with purple and green and another with pink and green. Melissa also said that since I am her only honor attendant we can get a dress that is flattering to me, she promised not to make me wear yellow because she didn't want a jaundiced maid of honor. How sweet of her to think of me, I'd wear whatever she wanted (although I do look horrible in yellow), I look good in pink. She also wanted copies of my budget and wedding books. Depending on what she decides to wear she may also borrow my tiara. I'm excited about her wedding, it will be nice to help out on a wedding without having to make any decisions.

Now I'm nervously waiting to hear from Denis if we got either of our top two choice apartments. I don't know how long it takes to hear once applications are submitted, or if other people have taken them already. Such a stressful process. I also want to hear about Denis's first day of work.
