People of the Book: A Novel
by Geraldine Brooks
My boss lent me this as an audio book. I'm not normally a fan of audio books, but I have the time during my commute and really enjoyed it.
The author interweaves the story of an Australian book conservator in Bosnia in 1996 with moments in the history of the book she's restoring, the Sarajevo Haggedah. You go back to Vienna, Venice, and the Spanish inquisition. It's really fantastic. Hannah (the conservator) travels too, to Vienna, and Boston, discovering things about the book through clues she's unearthed (an insect wing, a wine stain, etc.) It's a compelling story.
