This weekend was beautiful. Saturday we went ice skating at the rink in the National Gallery's sculpture garden. It was the last weekend the rink was open and I had been wanting to go all winter. Denis was not very excited about skating, claiming he can't skate. (He can skate, neither of us can skate well, but we can manage.) It hurt his ankles so he had to rest. I only fell a couple of times, but Denis took one bad fall on our last loop and hit his head on the ice, so we left. With the exception of Denis's fall I had a really good time.

Then we had lunch at Potbelly and I spent the afternoon finishing the end of the Pullman His Dark Material's Triology. I really liked the ending. Oh the pleasures of procrastination. Sadly Sunday I had to do some work and am the Rubens reading was so tedious that now I'm a little behind, but oh well. The new season of Deadwood started and Carnivale isn't quite over so I had two hours of HBO to immerse myself in last night.

This week is super busy. There are four 20th c. people visiting for a new faculty position. This means 4 days of free lunch, but also candidate meetings and talks four days in a row. I'm in charge of gathering grad. student opinons and presenting them to the faculty on Friday morning. (They want to have a decision before spring break.)

I just found out that I received a $2500 grant from ACLS (the American Council of Learned Societies) to study Croatian at Pittsburgh this summer! I applied back in January. Now, I haven't been accepted to Pittsburgh yet, but this certainly bodes well. This would cover tuition and I'd only be responsible for room and board (although I also applied for financial aid at Pittsburgh.) Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be accepted into the program.
