I haven't really written this week so I guess I'll recap now.
Last Weekend: The trip to New York was great! It was fun to visit and the beautiful weather didn't hurt a bit. The only downside was that I was pretty tired all week.
Wednesday: I stupidly turned on the t.v. and ended up watching three hours of CNN which just depressed and upset me, leaving me with vague feelings of anxiety.
Thursday: Attempted to focus more on my academic bubble rather than the rest of the world, and made major steps on all of my papers. In terms of my Modernism paper on (French Surrealist) Andre Masson, I found out that there's a print in the Williams College Museum of Art collection that meshes perfectly with my topic and even leads me towards a thesis statement! It's entitled either "Dream of a Future Desert" or "Dream of a Deserted Future" my French isn't good enough to figure out which is the noun. Then I had a meeting with my prof. and we determined that my Museum's paper is going to be on the concept of the regional museum, specifically looking at the Wadsworth Antheaum and the Phoenix museum. The good news is that I'll get to go to Hartford and see the Marsden Hartley show that's up while looking at the Wadsworth, the bad news is that I know nothing about the Pheonix museum and certainly won't be visiting there this term. Finally, I started doing reserach and collecting sources for my Monument's paper on Mestrovic (a Croatian sculptor), I was relieved to find out that there actually are sources, although who knows how long it'll take the ILL requests to come in, and I'll have to be extra-nice to Denis so that he'll translate some articles for me.
Friday: The first day of spring break. I spent some time with the Masson print (it's really fabulous) and ran some errands. Then we had a big "bye for spring break" dinner at this pan-Asian restaurant. It was lots of fun, poor Denis had to work so he missed it, but he enjoyed the leftovers.
Saturday: slept in, supposed to do laundry, not too exciting
Sunday through Tuesday: I'm driving to Syracuase tomorrow to do three fabulous things:
1. to visit my sister
2. to do some original source resource on Mestrovic, Syracuse has 6 boxes of archival material left there because he taught there in the 60s, it'll be like treasure hunting, I might find great stuff (that may or may not be relevant to my paper) or I may find crap, or I may find great stuff that I can't read because it'll be in Croatian and Denis isn't coming down. But still archival research!!! Syracuse also has a number of Mestrovic books in English so I'm going to be spending some time in the library too.
3. to go to an Ani DiFranco concert!!! Yay! Who knew she'd play Syracuse on a Monday? I can't remember the last time I went to a concert, so this is a big treat (and the reason I'm going down this Monday and Tuesday as opposed to some other time during spring break).
