Fun game at the club tonight. I did okay, but we were down for the entire game, they would win an end and score 3 while when we won one we would score 1. Our second and vice weren't there, but we had a good sub. The team we were playing against also had only 3 players. This worked well for me because my first rock would be short, my second through the house, and my third usually nearish to where it was supposed to go. (Usually everyone throws 2 rocks an end, but if you only have 3 people on a team the first two will each throw 3 rocks.) At the end of the 7th end we're down 4 to 8. (For those of you who are not curlers this is very bad, you most often score 1-3 points an end, 3 is quite good). Anyway in the eighth end all of our rocks were in play, 7 of them in the house, 2 or 3 in the four-foot, and we ended up scoring 5 and winning the game. Our skip gave me a high-five and then said "you know we're not supposed to do that right?" (you're not supposed to celebrate winning or more correctly celebrate the other team losing in curling, good sportsmanship is very important.) It was pretty damn cool though.

Yay Amelia! I'm totally into curling now, I've been watching it nonstop because it's the winter Olympics. I'm gonna see if there are any places to curl in NYC, it looks really fun now that I know what it is and how the game works.

You should totally start curling! Come visit us in DC and we'll take you to our club. The organization for the east coast is the GNCC (grand national curling club), their website http://www.gncc.org/ and they should have a list of east coast clubs. The website for our club also has links to other organizations, see http://curldc.com/about/links.php

I saw a television ad while I was watching the Winter Olympics the other day. In it, two businessmen and a woman are sitting at a bar. The man, who's all studly-looking, orders two drinks from the bartender and gives one to the woman and they exchange smiles, yada yada. The other man, who's less studly-looking, looks up at the TV behind the bar where curling is being shown. He has his epiphany and orders a drink, then slides it down the bar, gently knocking the other suitors' drink away from the girl, who now looks at the new guy and gives him a come-hither smile. The whole thing ends with both businessmen, the woman, and the bartender all standing in front of the bar, watching curling, and all celebrating together. The tagline was, "share the passion."

I have no idea what product or service was being advertised. =)
