the power of trailers

Some amusing entries to a contest that asked editors to create new trailers of old movies in a different genre using new music, but no new footage. Here is:

The Shining (which won the contest)
West Side Story
Titanic

And then there's this.

that was great!

Are there others? That was really well done. Although, I've never seen West Side Story....do lights really come out of their eyes??

What website did you find that on?

No, lights don't really come out of their eyes. The people who made that tampered with the old footage, which I sort of feel is just as bad as using new footage. Not that I could have done any better, mind.

The remade trailer for The Shining was seriously the best thing I saw all weekend. OK, I admit that's a lie, because I saw Serenity and also watched several hours of Buffy Season 3 this weekend. But The Shining trailer remake was at least the third best thing I saw this weekend. ;-)

Awesome!

I AM out of the loop. What's Serenity? And is Buffy still on TV, or is season 3 on DVD and that's what everyone's watching? Is there a Buffy movie coming out, and hence all the prior discussions as to 'spoilers'?

Please, don't throw popcorn!! I haven't owned a TV in 5 years....

Don't worry. Despite owning a TV, [livejournal.com profile] coffman and I never done the TV thing either. We've only ever gotten into a few shows thanks to DVD box sets.

Buffy ended several years ago and DVDs of all the seasons (there were 7) have been out for quite a while. We were just way slow to get on the bandwagon, as pretty much everyone else who is into Buffy saw all the episodes long before we did.

Serenity is a movie that is currently out now that is based on a TV show called Firefly that, thanks to terrible marketing and support, tanked about 5 years ago. The amazing thing is that even though only about 10 episodes of Firefly were ever aired, and not even in the correct order, the few people who actually watched it were on the ball enough to rally together, raise money, sign petitions, write letters, create enough underground buzz, etc. to ensure that the episodes were released on a DVD set, which went on to become so successful that the creator of the series was able to make a movie out of his canceled TV show. This is pretty much unheard of, so it's pretty darn exciting for the underdog fans of the show.

"Spoilers" is a generic term that refers to important plot points that someone who hasn't yet experienced the piece of media probably doesn't want to hear beforehand, because it "spoils" the experience for them. If a movie has a twist ending or a beloved character dies or some kind of romantic development occurs, it would be cruel to tell someone before they saw it for themselves.
