Camping and Cooking

Despite the fact that I was sick with a stomach thing on Thursday and Denis had it Friday (only 24 hours thank goodness) we still headed out Saturday to go camping with my parents, Melissa, and her boyfriend Matt.

We didn't get rained on, but it was intensely humid which made sleeping uncomfortable (I'm spoiled by the air conditioning) plus I had horrid heartburn (which I don't usually get) from dinner. I did enjoy the weekend, it was great to do all the typical camping-type things: set up the tent, take a hike with everyone, Denis and I took my parents double-kayack out on the lake for a little bit (from which Denis did not escape unharmed, he has a horrible rope burn from dropping the kayack), cooking smores and doughboys over the campfire, playing cards on the picnic table, and having homemade egg mcmuffins for breakfast. So although we only went camping for 24 hours, it was nice. It was also my parent's 29th wedding anniversary on Sunday so we gave them a card.

When we got home we showered (lovely camping grime: dirt, sunscreen, and bugspray) and then shopped, cleaned, and cooked for the dinner guests we are having tonight plus we decided to do the diet that we do customer service for at work. So we had a huge grocery bill and the fridge is stocked. We made lasagna, spinach pie, and these Croatian lemon cookie things I can't remember the name of for dinner tonight (only have about an hour from when we get out of work). We don't have a dining room so I guess we'll move the table to the office? This entertaining thing is stressing me out, we've never entertained adults before, I also need to vaccum. The apartment is the most picked-up it's ever been.

I'm not sure when we're going to have time to prepare all this new-diet food, since we're officially starting Tuesday morning. Of course Tuesday I'm taking the day off and driving up to Hanover for Sam Dahl's opening, plus to visit people at the slideroom and the Hood. I don't think it's a good idea to start a diet on a day I'm traveling and being taken out to lunch, but sometime this week we're going to eat all this new food we bought.

Of course I forgot to tell my boss at Agora about the dinner party so I took Thurs. off for illness, then the weekend for camping, had already asked for Tuesday off, and now I'm missing Monday too. I hope he isn't too pissed at me, but it took us 2 months to find a day when Denis didn't have to work at Best Buy and Stefanie's husband Rob wasn't on call (he's a doctor.) The recipe said not to pre-cook the lasagna noodles, I hope they cook while it's in the oven, or we will have crunchy lasagna. Did I mention I'm a little stressed? Plus the summer is over in 3 weeks!!!

Okay, I need to use part of my lunch hour productively by studying some Croatian.

I can't believe the summer is almost over. It did feel like it passed quickly, mainly because I've been wanting it to. So I guess I will be going on summer vacation with my family the week that it is officially over, then. Eh, it'll still be warmish.

All that sounds really yummy!

Hope it all went well!

Also, what is the name of the diet that you two are about to embark on? I know that you guys told us once it a conversation about Agora, but I can't remember...
